There is little dispute that the way our system is organised to deliver care must change. Funding is disjointed and systems are fragmented; primary care is treated separately from hospital care, and inputs are equated as outputs.
As a nation, we are growing, living longer and we spend the highest average years in ill health of any OECD country. Our system is costly but there is only a finite bucket of money; little of which is spent on keeping people healthy and well. In health planning, the social context isn’t always considered, nor is the longer term and good data is not available to be drawn upon. We must change to ensure we are sustainable, effective and viable for the decades and the change to come. That’s easier said than done.
The Victorian Healthcare Association’s 2019 annual conference will bring together thought-leaders, innovators, key decision makers and voices of the future to help us reimagine, share ideas and drive rich conversation on making the change that is needed to ensure we can sustain cutting-edge and high-quality healthcare into the future.
The program for the conference will be published shortly. Stay tuned.
