The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and other recent research has identified a range of factors that can either hinder or support children’s disclosures of abuse or neglect. One of the major findings of the Royal Commission was that many survivors of abuse confronted significant barriers to disclosing their experiences of abuse, including feelings of shame and not having anyone to disclose to.
This webinar will summarise recent research on how professionals working with children and young people can create environments that support, and respond well to, children’s and young people’s disclosures of abuse or neglect. It will also discuss the various barriers to reporting child abuse and neglect and outline potential strategies to address them.
This webinar will be relevant for out-of-home care workers, child and family welfare workers, education and health workers, and managers of these services and policy makers.
